Defense Department will still allow unvaccinated soldiers to be deployed.
On Wednesday, during a House of Representatives hearing on how the military has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic, Major General Jeff Taliaferro, Vice Director for Operations alerted Congress that one-third of service members have declined the vaccine. General Taliaferro said, “I think our initial look — and this is of course very early data — is acceptance rates are somewhere in the two-thirds territory, and of course it varies by different groups.”
General Taliaferro also stated that those service members who are unvaccinated were still able to be deployed. Currently, the Defense Department has not released up-to-date information about which or how many service members have received the vaccine. The Defense Department is partnered with FEMA to distribute vaccines to the general public.
